Join us during the exciting seasonal transition on the Ningaloo Reef, where every day brings a unique adventure dictated by nature herself. August and September mark the height of Humpback Whale season, with Whale Shark sightings becoming less frequent. Our tours offer opportunities to enter the water with Humpback Whales, swim with Whale Sharks, Manta Rays and other marine life, but please note that no specific encounter is guaranteed.
Each tour is a celebration of what the reef has to offer on any given day. Our spotter plane searches the waters for Humpback Whales, Whale Sharks, Manta Rays, and any other marine life that might be present. Depending on the day, you might have the chance to see Orcas, Minke Whales, Turtles, Leopard Sharks, Dolphins, and more, in addition to the stars of the season.
What you’ll encounter depends entirely on the movements of the animals that day. One day might start with a swim alongside a majestic Whale Shark, while another might feature the thrilling sight of Manta Rays gliding effortlessly through the water, or the awe-inspiring presence of Humpback Whales breaching nearby.
Included throughout your day, we include 1–2 reef snorkels, where you’ll explore diverse coral gardens teeming with reef fish and other fascinating marine life. Our itinerary is fluid, adapting to what’s happening out on the water to ensure you get the most out of your experience.
This tour is perfect for adventurers who love the ocean, value authentic wildlife encounters, and appreciate the thrill of exploring nature on her terms. Whether you're swimming alongside a Whale Shark, marveling at a Humpback Whale from the deck, or catching a glimpse of Orcas or Dolphins, every moment is unforgettable.
To enrich your experience, our Marine Biologists are always on hand to provide fascinating insights into the reef’s diverse ecosystem, guiding you through each encounter and deepening your appreciation for this World Heritage-listed wonder.
We’re proud to be among the select few licensed to offer in water Humpback Whale encounters in Western Australia. This incredible experience depends on animal behaviour, sea conditions and safety assessments by our expert, specifically trained crew.
Here’s how it works:
This activity requires confident swimming and snorkelling abilities, as Humpback Whales can move quickly and cover vast distances. Participants must be able to swim 100 metres unaided in open ocean conditions. Safety is paramount and the crew reserves the right to decide if participation is not suitable for certain individuals.
For those who prefer to stay dry, the Magellan offers excellent viewing opportunities to enjoy the breathtaking sight of these magnificent creatures from the deck.
It’s truly a privilege to share the ocean with its amazing inhabitants and explore their natural home, but as nature doesn’t run on a schedule, we can’t guarantee interactions with specific animals. We hope you’ll embrace the adventure of the day and the surprises it brings!
